Walkerville Heritage Conservation District Study and Plan

Following on from their work on the Walkerville Districting Study in 2020, in 2023, the City of Windsor awarded Drs. Letourneau and Bray the Heritage Conservation District Study for Walkerville. The Districting Study recommended that Walkerville be considered for designation as a Heritage Conservation District (HCD). The consultants updated their research on the historical evolution of the community and evaluated its cultural heritage resources. Public consultation continued throughout the Study phase. The consultants determined that the study area, which included the core of the commercial and residential areas of the village as well as the distillery complex, merited designation as an HCD. Their recommendations were adopted by Council and the consultants were instructed to prepare a Heritage Conservation District Plan. Work is underway on the HCD Plan and it is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
