St. Anne’s Point Heritage Conservation Area Design Guidelines

St. Anne’s Point is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Fredericton, situated on the west bank of the St. John River and located between the downtown core and the university. The Heritage Conservation Area contains buildings from the early 19th century to the present, set within a mature landscape of trees and gardens. Carl Bray prepared an historical overview of the area’s evolution, an evaluation of its heritage character, and assisted in a review of existing heritage policies. He identified sub-areas, each with specific heritage attributes, and helped the lead consultant prepare detailed design guidelines for conservation and new development. Work included archival research, site visits, regular meetings with City staff, and presentations at public workshops. The resulting report updates the existing design guidelines and recommends amendments to the area’s existing heritage by-law.
